Today was a beautiful sunny day, a great day to celebrate our 3rd year anniversary since opening Anne's House. Thanks to all of our supporters that help grow and build our community! ... See MoreSee Less
Montréal needs day shelters"It's great to fund initiatives that get people off the street and into housing. It's also NOT great to achieve that objective by cutting funds to day centres like the red roof. A large number of our clients won't be eligible, or able, to enter such programs (for a million reasons). They'll be left out, left outside literally, in heat waves and in the cold, with nowhere to go where they are not loitering on someone's property. The police will be called more often, the ambulances and first responders will be called more often. The STM will need to hire more security to kick people out of the metro stations so that someone else can call the police later on when those same people with nowhere to go end up loitering on someone else's property.
Funding day centres is a lot cheaper for society than hiring more police and security guards to kick people out of bus shelters, libraries and malls. We actually welcome street people at day centres like the red roof. It's not a perfect solution but it's a reprieve for everybody. It gives people a place to go where they can rest up, get a shower, change their clothing, eat a decent meal and take a little break from living on the street.
Donate if you can. Ask your local rep what plans they have to help people who can't get into housing. Help save the red roof."
